ποτέ δεν ήμουν λάτρης των Χριστουγέννων, αν και παραδέχομαι ότι είμαι από αυτούς που χαζοχαίρονται με τα τραγουδάκια τύπου let it snow-let it snow-let it snow και ακόμη περισσότερο (και άλλωστε ποιος μπορεί να το αρνηθεί) Χριστούγεννα-Χριστούγεννα-ευτυχισμένα-δε γίνονται-καρδούλα μου-χωρίς εσένα.

πάντα όμως είχα έρωτα με τα φωτάκια, τα λαμπάκια, τα μπιχλιμπιδάκια, τα μπαρμπαδάκια πάνω στα δέντρα

και πάντα χαιρόμουν όταν ξεκινούσαν να στολίζουν τους δρόμους και τα μαγαζιά κι ας γκρίνιαζαν όλοι οι υπόλοιποι ότι έλεος, είναι ακόμα Νοέμβριος.

δεν είχα δώσει ποτέ σημασία, αλλά προχτές συνειδητοποίησα πόσο αγαπάω τα Χριστούγεννα -πες το συνήθεια- και πόσο μου έλειψαν φέτος.

όχι ότι θα έκανα τίποτε το συνταρακτικό πέρα από το άραγμα στο σπίτι και το κλασσικό φαγητό μέχρι σκασμού. μου κακοφάνηκε όμως που πέρασε έτσι άδοξα, χωρίς να ακούσω από κανέναν χρόνια πολλά -εκτός από τη μανούλα μου που με πήρε τηλέφωνο (:- και χωρίς να γίνει τίποτα μα τίποτα το ιδιαίτερο.

έπιασα τον εαυτό μου να αναζητά σημάδια ότι και κάποιος άλλος εκτός από εμένα αντιλαμβάνεται το ξεχωριστό της ημέρας. βγαίνοντας το πρωί από το σπίτι για να πάω στο διαγώνισμά μου -μην ξεχνιόμαστε- είδα μια ορχήστρα στην πλατεία Ταξίμ και είπα αχ! λόγω των Χριστουγέννων είναι φαίνεται! και προχώρησα χαρούμενη προς το μετρό χωρίς να το ψάξω περαιτέρω κι ας έπαιζαν Üsküdara gider iken aldı da bir yağmur αντί για i'm dreaming of a white Christmas.

ωραίο είναι το κάτι διαφορετικό και εκτιμάω ιδιαιτέρως τα τόσα διαφορετικά πράγματα που γνωρίζω, όσο αυτά δε γίνονται κάτι που λείπει.

ας πούμε ότι έχω μεγάλες προσδοκίες από την Πρωτοχρονιά.

μετά τις 16:30 -μην ξεχνιόμαστε- θα του δώσουμε να καταλάβει!

θα περάσει ο καιρός λένε στους φαντάρους που μετράνε τις μέρες σε στυλ 86 και σήμερα, να περάσει η εξεταστική και μετά θα κάνω όλα όσα σχεδιάζω - ταξίδια, συναντήσεις, μεθύσια, χαβαλέ, ανάπτυξη κρυφών ταλέντων και δεξιοτήτων - λένε οι φοιτητές στη χώρα που έμενα μέχρι φέτος - γιατί σ' αυτήν που μένω τώρα περιμένουν κάθε βδομάδα να περάσουν οι μικρές μεν πολλές δε υποχρεώσεις που συνοδεύουν την επιλογή τους να σπουδάσουν σ' αυτό το πανεπιστήμιο αυτό που όλοι τους έλεγαν ότι είναι για το καλό τους και μάλλον κάτι παραπάνω θα ξέρουνε, φαίνεται ότι είναι για το καλό μου να μη συχνάζω και πολύ στα μπαράκια λένε - ένας μήνας είναι, θα περάσει έλεγα εγώ όταν έφευγα, θα περάσει έλεγε κι αυτός.

ολόκληροι 3 μήνες πέρασαν κι εγώ ακόμη νιώθω πως μόλις ήρθα, ακόμη λέω να τακτοποιηθώ πρώτα και μετά θα βρω καμιά δουλειά, θα βγαλω την ύλη που δεν κατάλαβα, ακόμα αρχή είναι, ακόμη δεν έχω βγάλει κάρτα για το μετρό, ακόμη δεν έχω αγοράσει καφετιέρα, ακόμη δεν έχω πάει να υπογράψω το συμβόλαιο του σπιτιού μου, ακόμη δεν έχω τηλεφωνήσει για να έρθουν να ελέγξουν το φυσικό αέριο, ακόμη έχω 3 συρτάρια άδεια και δεν έχω με τι να τα γεμίσω.

σήμερα η Magdalena μου είπε ότι ετοιμάζεται να φύγει, σκέφτεται πώς θα πακετάρει τα πράγματά της για να τα πάρει πίσω στο Μόναχο. όταν ήρθαμε έλεγα ο μισός χρόνος είναι πολύς καιρός, όταν γνωριστήκαμε λέγαμε έχουμε καιρό για το ένα και για το άλλο και εκπλήσσομαι που κάναμε λάθος. τη Magdalena την είδα πρώτη φορά σήμερα μετά από την πρώτη βδομάδα που άνοιξε το πανεπιστήμιο.

όλα περνάνε και όλα έχουν προθεσμίες. από το Body Worlds που τελειώνει την Κυριακή και τελικά δεν πήγα και τη δήλωση μαθημάτων που άργησα τόσο πολύ να την κάνω που χρειάστηκε βεβαίωση από όλους τους καθηγητές και συνάντηση με τον διευθυντή, μέχρι το χρόνο που έχεις για να γνωρίσεις, να δεθείς, να μοιραστείς.

από εκεί που είμαι λέμε χαλαρά και εδώ αυτήν την λέξη την ξέρουν και τη θαυμάζουν. γελάνε όταν αργώ στα ραντεβού ή όταν ξεχνάω να κάνω κάτι. το βρίσκουν συμπαθητικό να μη σε νοιάζει.

όμως, νομίζω, δεν είναι.

I used to have a friend who drew little elephants at every chance he got. On papers, on walls, on classroom desks.
All of them were different, and each and every one of them had a name. My friend knew all the elephants he ever drew, he remembered all of their names, but he never drew the same elephant more than once.

Once he drew an elephant on a pink paper torn out of a little notebook I had brought to school, and he gave it to me. Her name was Chiara, and she was the cutest little elephant I had ever seen. She had a huge purple ribbon tied around her left ear and she looked soooo pretty (for an elephant)!
But as we left school, I forgot the paper on my desk and I never saw it again..

I asked him to draw Chiara again, but he wouldn't. He said that, even if she chose to be away, it would be unfair if we just replaced her like that with a new duplicate of hers.
He agreed to draw me another elephant to go and look for Chiara. His name was Eliott.

Every day I was leaving him on my desk during breaks and taking him back with me to home after school.
Three months passed and Eliott showed no sign of bringing Chiara. In fact, he seemed like he had no intention of moving at all from the place I was leaving him.
During one break, I hid behind the door and watched. I saw the paper staying still, not moving even a tiny bit.
At the end of the break I went to call my friend and tell him that he gave me the laziest elephant in the world.

As we went back inside and while I was explaining to my friend that he was supposed to help me find Chiara, I lifted the paper from my desk and my words were cut.
Eliott was gone!
On the paper, there were some tiny pink dots, and at the side - almost falling out of the paper - was an untied purple ribbon..

It is again that time. For everyone I guess.
The time of the year when I feel so bad, even if I am really happy that period.

Yes, it's exam period that I'm talking about.
I wrote it with happy shiny letters so that maybe I'll see it and change my view on it.
But no.

And by the way the last "d" is way too shiny. Maybe that's why.

Feelings suck.

I think nobody can ever be happy.
When we are happy, we are trying to make things even more perfect, and then we end up getting angry about them not being perfect.
I guess happiness is sort of a boring feeling.

And you can never be satisfied with it. You can never say "I am happy enough".
And it is just moments.

I'll probably erase this post tomorrow. It is too meaningless.

When I am asked which is my favorite city in the world, I'll probably answer -without thinking more than 3 seconds- "Istanbul".
But if we think of Istanbul as a totally different thing for me, almost as my second home -therefore I cannot judge it as a tourist- and I am asked again, which is my favorite place that I have ever visited, then the answer would have to be

Riga.

After talking to many people and explaining how much I loved that place, what a great time I had, how everything is perfect there,

I couldn't help but wonder: Is Riga truly such an amazing place?

I'm not going to answer this question. Maybe it is, maybe it is not.

The main thing I wanted to share is how much I personally love it and most importantly

my realization about why I actually love it so much.

I love this place so much for a very simple reason:

I have only happy memories there. Nothing bad ever happened. Not even one tiny millisecond of sorrow, disappointment or boredom -except the millisecond that we realized our beer was finished and just before we ordered a new one.

For this reason, in my mind Riga is a dreamy place. It is a place where only good things happen. A place where everybody is happy and everything goes well.

In my mind, Riga is all the wonderful little things that happened there. And I remember every one of them.

The road from the airport to home*, where I heard random stories about things I could see from the window, even heard that a Turkish guy designed a building which I can't remember what it was.

Running from the shower with wet hair and a huge blue towel on my head and shoulders to catch the last train to Cēsis, and then the sauna with the smell of beer which I couldn't bear for even 3 minutes, and then sitting in the kitchen and drinking hot tea in combination with Mojito.

The tasty breakfasts and lunches, so much eggs and so much sour cream.

The incredibly big amounts of garlic bread, the beer place in Cēsis where we first discovered it, the medieval cave place where we remembered it -but it was too dark to take photos- and every single bar where we ordered it from then on, no matter what we were drinking or eating.

The less-than-one-euro beer in that place in the square, with the melodic live music.

The dream of opening our own bar with the name "No Problem", and it would have no last call.

The French bar with the shots we drank there, and the beer I drank at once and people said "ooo, she will get drunk." (I did).

The girls who were indeed kinda beautiful -I must finally admit- and how angry I was getting whenever I heard something related to it.

The soundtrack of our days and especially nights (when I could never really sleep entirely): "Get Back", "Soledad", "Stand By Me"..

The boat trip, even though I didn't kiss anybody under the bridge.

That morning that I kinda fell in love.

The bus to Tallinn, inside which there was heavy rain, and the nice discussions after moving to a drier place.

The place with the cheap food and the basement bar where barmen were doing their training.

The expensive music shop, which we were entering every day, but we never actually bought somehing -well, I did, but just a little thing.

The real friends I made,

and the real love I found.

I will never forget.

Riga is the best place in the whole world.

I love you Rigaaaaa!

I can't think of anything more annoying than websites with auto-play music.

Just a while ago, I opened some websites from a list, started looking through them, and suddenly this nice song started playing. At first, it didn't bother me, even though auto-play really gets on my nerves, but this one was pretty nice. After 10 seconds, an annoying music, with a rhythm totally un-matching to the first song started playing, and soon after that, a poem with background music started as well.

It took me 5 fckng minutes to find out which damn websites were the ones, and to turn the noise off.

The bright side: after that, I appreciate silence more. I haven't turned on music or TV since.

I have a friend. He hates to walk alone in the street. He always goes and walks next to other people, like they are together. But he tries not to be noticed. Of course there have been incidents in which people thought he was crazy, but then again maybe he is. Maybe we all are.
My friend also hates rain in his shoes. So when it rains he never goes out. Because all his shoes are old. He doesn't want to buy new ones. He thinks it's meaningless. Plus, he thinks of it as a good opportunity to stay home every now and then. It doesn't rain that much in my friend's country anyway. Just 37 days a year. Last year it only rained 34 days and one night. This can't be good.
But there is also things he likes, my friend is not a weird person.
He likes being my friend.
Sometimes we walk together barefoot in the grass. We both really love that. But once my friend was bitten by a bug and 2 sparkling orange dots appeared on his foot. My friend insists it was a little fairy which he accidentally stepped on, but I am trying hard not to believe in fairies.

I am one of the lucky people.
Not because I can buy more expensive dresses or eat in fancier restaurants than others.
I am lucky because I live in a place where we take for granted something that other people pray for all their life. I am lucky because I have no idea how terrible it is not to have it. I hear about it on the news, I see it on TV, but what do I really know about it? I am lucky because I can make plans for tomorrow and not fear that I might never be able to actually make them come true. I am lucky because PEACE has been embedded in me, through the school I went to, the books I read, the people I spoke to, or maybe I was just born with it. I am lucky because I don't hate people and I don't judge them by their appearance, colour, nationality, or religion. I am lucky because I was open-minded enough to go to a camp about peace. I am lucky because I have met other people as lucky as me and I keep on meeting more. I am lucky because I can discuss and expess my opinion. I am lucky because I am sitting here now, writing these words. I am lucky because I can smile every morning when I wake up. I am lucky because I can still dream with my optimistic mind.

Πρέπει γρήγορα διέξοδο να βρω να ξεφύγω, σε εξωτικούς προορισμούς με χίλια να φύγω.
Θέλω παραλίες με παρθένα νερά, χωρίς μικρά παιδάκια με παππού και γιαγιά.

Και mojito αντί για αίμα μες στη φλέβα να κυλάει.

Θα αφήσω πίσω και δουλειές και μυαλά, θα ξεχάσω πώς θα βγουν τα λεφτά, θα φοράω μαγιό όλη μέρα κι όλη νύχτα και στεφάνια από λουλούδια θα μου βάλω στα στήθια.
Πες μου μωρό μου αν ζητάω πολλά, πες μου αν είναι εφικτά τελικά όλα αυτά.

I met a lizard today. Although it was a little scared at first, it really seems like a good lizard. It is small, and green. It even has dots. It is really cool. It is a girl-lizard.
I told her about you. She says hi. She didn't seem to really like you, though.. I don't know why. Maybe it is something I said..
A! Yea! It could be the fact that I mentioned that you killed a mosquito yesterday. I think this was pretty disturbing for her, especially after she asked if you ate it afterwards and I said "no". She mumbled something about stupid humans who kill creatures even if they are not planning to eat them, and then she changed the subject. She asked me if I like elephants. I told her I think they're cool, but I've never had a close contact with one. She sighed and said that she is so small she can't see elephants to decide if they are cool or not. But she told me that in lizard world elephants are said to be really poetic when they speak. She even mentioned that in lizardian "elephant" means "sunset", so she figured maybe that's why. I just had to agree.

Yes, it is one of those nights.
Yet another one of them.
When you don't know what the hell is wrong with you.
When you have that huge burden that you just can't let out.
When you have no clue just where you're heading.
Those nights you are evaluating everything and no matter how carefully you double-check the results, they never quite meet what you dreamt.
And there is also the songs.
Ah, those songs.
You feel so grateful to those someones who managed to say these words rights, and at the same time you wanna sue them for messing with your mind.
And you hate them for being so damn right.
On a night like this, nothing can bring you up.
Because you don't want to feel any different.
Don't try to change the playlist to the "happy hippie shake" one.
You're just fooling yourself.
It's probably better to wait til sleep shows you some mercy and just go to sleep.
